Thiess is the world’s largest supplier of outsourced coal mining services. Our fleet of mining and construction plant is one of the largest and most diversified in all of Australasia. Worldwide, we mine more than 67 million tonnes of coal and 8 million tonnes of ore every year, and each day our mining operations move more than 3 million tonnes of material. We develop, construct and operate a number of coal and metalliferous mines in Australia and Indonesia for mining majors like BHP Billiton, Peabody and Xstrata. Our mining operations account for about 40% of Thiess’ annual turnover.

Thiess Minecs
Thiess Minecs India Pvt. Ltd. (90% owned subsidiary of Thiess) has been recently awarded a project by one of India’s Maharatnas, NTPC Limited (NTPC) to develop, construct & operate a 15 MTPA Coal Mining Project at Pakri Barwadih near Hazaribagh town in the State of Jharkhand. This $5.5 billion project involves the construction and/ or operation of the following facilities in addition to operating the mine for its entire life of more than 22 years:
1. A 3000 TPH Coal Handling Plant capable of storing 400,000 tonne of crushed coal (-50 MM) and despatching the coal through a series of overland conveyors which will be constructed by NTPC.
2. Mine Infrastructure including World class Heavy earth moving equipment workshops, stockyards for various types of spares and consumables, offices, welfare amenities, diesel storage & dispensing systems, bulk explosive plants, and associated installations.
3. A 13 Km long overland conveyor network and Rapid loading system discharging into Indian Railways System to be constructed by NTPC.
4. A self contained residential colony to house the Managers, Engineers and Staff required to construct, operate and maintain the above facilities.
5. All utilities required for the construction and operation of the above.

| Job Description | Thiess India and Thiess Minecs are now looking for Engineering: Civil, Electrical and Mechanical professionals at all levels, with suitable experience in Engineering or Construction of material handling plants, utilities, associated with such plants or Experience in project management (especially in greenfield projects) to work at the project site near Hazaribagh as well as in the Engineering/ Corporate office at Kolkata. The assignment may also involve training and visits to mines and other facilities operated by Thiess in Indonesia/ Australia and an intensive training programme on the Thiess Management Systems, which will be used to construct the project facilities and develop & operate the Mine as per Thiess global standards. |
| Desired Profile | Candidate must hold Degree/Diploma in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical) from a reputed Engineering College; Min 3 – 5 Years experience in Engineering or Construction. Candidate must possess good writing and speaking of English language and must be ready to relocate, initially at Hazaribagh, till our own colony is developed in Pakri Barwadih at Jharkhand. Few positions based at Kolkata will have to frequently travel to Project site at Pakri Barwadih near Hazaribagh. |
