Job Description

 

The Network Engineer’s role is to install, support, and maintain a global network infrastructure spanning 74 countries with over 212 locations. The individual selected must be fully qualified in all aspects of LAN, WAN, Network Security Administration, hardware and software technical support and analysis, communications and network systems analysis, and configuration management. The individual must be competent to work on highly complex assignments and perform a full range of technical support activities. Must be able to make timely decisions based on experience, department guidelines, and company policies.

 



• Plan, design, and develop local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization.

• Install, monitor, maintain, support, and optimize network hardware, software, and communication links.

• Analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.



Specifically:

1. Design and support LAN/WAN/WLAN infrastructure and associated software and hardware

2. Plan for management or phasing out of legacy systems and technologies

3. Collaborate with systems engineers/vendors for upgrades to operating systems, hardware, etc

4. Provide leadership for implementing new products or services, as well as the technical resources required to manage them

5. Collaborate with help desk to resolve trouble tickets and resolve end-user issues

6. Perform network audits as necessary

7. Train and mentor junior engineers and other members of the Network Operations department

8. Monitor and identify capacity and performance issues for network traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of IT systems

9. Conduct testing and development disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions, and back up systems



10. Creates and maintains detailed technical documentation of all moves, adds, and changes in regards to the network

11. Evaluate existing communications systems, identify deficiencies and make network performance recommendations

12. Excellent verbal and written communication and customer interactive skills. Must be a team player.

13. Ability to manage multiple priorities, commitments and projects in a fast-paces dynamic environment

14. Be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support as needed

15. Perform other duties as required by management

Desired Candidate Profile

Required

• Proven ability to design, implement, maintain, and support local and remote portions of a global enterprise network

• Strong hands-on knowledge of configuration and maintenance of Cisco 28xx, 38xx series routers, Cisco Catalyst 4500 series, 29xx, 35xx, 37xx, 65xx and Nexus series switches, VLAN implementations, Cisco Pix and ASA Firewalls;CiscoWorks, CSA, ACS, CCA and Cisco IDS, VoIP, and Wireless Access Points, WCS, wireless controller and NAC.

• Citrix Netscaler and Juniper VPN.

• Demonstrated ability to provide third tier and on-going technical support for all LAN/WAN related operations.

• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP Protocol suite, IP routing protocols, Frame-Relay, IPSEC VPN, and xDSL Technologies, OSI Model and Layered Troubleshooting

• Ability to create and maintain detailed project plans, scope of work, and other technical documentation of all moves, adds, and changes in regards to the wide-are network

• Ability to develop and recommend strategies for network growth, security, and other network enhancements by maximizing functionality of routers, switches, and firewalls Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under general supervision

• Ability to evaluate existing communications systems, identify deficiencies, and make network performance recommendations

• Ability to organize workload for effective implementation

• Ability to interact effectively at all levels with sensitivity to cultural diversity

• Ability to function as an effective team member

• Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves

• Ability to conduct network security assessments

• Working technical knowledge of the Windows 2000 & 2003 Server operating systems

• Multi-lingual

 

2. Experience:

Required

• 10+ years installing and maintaining Enterprise LAN/WAN and related infrastructure

• 3+ years experience in a team leader role or senior position

• Proven experience with data networks including physical layer infrastructure, servers, LAN/WAN hardware, software, data transmission facilities and interconnecting devices.

• VoIP experience including, but not limited to, configuration, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of VoIP traffic within a Cisco network

• Hands-on experience with Cisco Wireless networks including but not limited to installation, configuration, and monitoring.

• Proven knowledge and practical application of network security, firewall, access and perimeter control, vulnerability management, intrusion detection and security monitoring.

• Working technical knowledge of TCP/IP Protocol suite, IP routing protocols. Frame-Relay, IPSEC VPN, and xDSL Technologies. OSI Model and Layered Troubleshooting

• Working technical knowledge of routing protocols, OSPF, BGP etc.

• Working technical knowledge of bandwidth management and event correlation, Virtual Private Networks, Change Management, Enterprise Network Management

• Proven knowledge and practical application of SNMP, security, firewalls, access and perimeter control, vulnerability management, intrusion detection and security monitoring.



Preferred

• Experience with Data Sniffers (Portable, Distributed and Infinistream), HP Opsware, Concord eHealth, MRTG, and Opnet

• Experience with Microsoft Windows Networking and Active Directory

3. Education:

Required

• CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert)



Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical/business discipline

• ITIL Certification (preferably V3)

• MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)

• CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)

• CCSP (Cisco Certified Security Professional)
