Job Description
  • Plans, develops and implements a materials strategy commensurate with the Group’s business strategy.
  • Keeps up to date with developments in the areas of materials management, technology advances in components & manufacturing and commercial law and keeps the team abreast with these as appropriate.
  • Identifies, plans and executes improvement projects within the function to align performance with the operational and strategic goals of the business.
  • Sets priorities, monitors and manages the material procurement, sourcing, R & D buying, stores and logistics teams world wide. Enables the team to ensure supply of quality components for the short and long term and non-conformances are always at reasonable / defined level.
  • Ensures that suppliers are capable of meeting the long term needs, de! liver the right quality at the specified times.
  • Recruits, develops and maintains a team capable of delivering the operational and strategic goals of the business. Is responsible for the staff in the materials team and ensures staff appropriately motivated and developed to meet the needs of the business.
  • Collaborates with R & D to assist the introduction of prevalent technologies in the world of related components. Ensure that the strategic plans for R & D and Operations are a close fit. Assists the Chief Technical Officer in the selection and sourcing of critical components which are part of long term product platforms.
  • Retains, grows and manage the relationships with different suppliers, around the world and builds our reputation as customers.
  • Leads any critical long term and commercial negotiations for the Group.
  • Ensures that currency and commodity risks are identified and managed.
  • Minim! ises working capital use by optimising inventory turns and sup! plier cr edit.
  • In times of crisis, liaises actively with the finance function and suppliers to manage supplier payments.
  • Responsible for optimising purchasing, shipment, transaction and operations costs to minimise Cost Of Goods Sold.
  • Is actively involved with all costing requests that are used to make pricing decisions where delivery periods are long, managing the inherent timing risks.
  • Develops and manages all required processes and information systems for the materials function and the various teams.

  1. 10 to 15 years experience in the field of supply chain management and material procuremet for the electronics manufacturing industry.
  2. Knowledge of materials management.
  3. Very good analytical skills.
  4. A good leader and team worker.
